Bad ass

My friend is sick at the moment, tired and stressed from work. This is really devastating for me because we can't laugh together about our special jokes and the simultaneous thoughts we very often have.
Did I mention she's amazingly cool?
Not that kind of pretentious coolness or coolness that makes you feel less cool, but just that effortless, natural, bad-ass cool that everyone wishes they had.

Pharrel vs Micky D's

Pharrell Williams is totally sexy, I don't know exactly where the appeal lies, but he's so cute in this clip at McDonalds in Charles de Gaulle...I totally would have given him the big mac! I think he would make an excellent travel companion (I'm sure he always travels in style).

Whatever works

Woody Allen has a new film out, Whatever works with Larry David. But as of yet, no plans to release it in Australia!
The trailer looks like classic Allen. I love it how practically all of his characters are just extensions of himself.

Cartwheels

This is the clip for 'Any Fun' by Coconut Records, Jason Schwartzman's band.
Good clean fun. Why doesn't anyone skate or do cartwheels anymore? Enjoy.

Why isn't this near my house?

This cafe looks so cute.
Simple, clean, they probably make good coffee...I wish I was there now!

More Wes Anderson genius

This is from promo material for wes Anderson.
I also like this Five signs you're watching a wes Anderson movie.

Relief...

I just finished an english exam, feels like such a relief.

I always wanted to be a Tenenbaum

The Royal Tenenbaums is without a doubt one of my favourite movies. Wes Anderson is a true auteur.

Great music, great acting, great style.

A classic.

Coco avant Chanel

Has lazing around ever looked so stylish?
Off to see Coco avant Chanel ce soir.

These guys make Halloween cool again.

Probably the best halloween costumes.
Ever.

Don't you want this baby?

What a cute family photo.

Time has ticked a heaven round the stars

I'm studying Dylan Thomas at the moment, one of my favourites is The force that through the green fuse drives the flower - beautiful evocative imagery from a tortured and talented soul.

I love this photo!

This is a sixteen month old baby. I wish I could work a blue hat like that, but I know I couldn't!

When you are engulfed in flames...

The American short-story writer David Sedaris is one of my favourite writers. He's witty, lucid and self-effacing, and his humour isn't aggressive. I'm hoping to read all of his stories (nearly there!) these holidays. Also on my holiday reading list: Gulag Archipelago by the Russian writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

Proof email can be just as exciting as getting a letter...

Today I was the most excited I have been in a long time, when to my delight an email from the writer Robert Dessaix was sitting in my inbox, and didn't I feel just like a little girl (mine!)

After writing a piece on his most recent work Arabesques I was able to send it to him, and he replied!

Even in an email, he manages to be so astute and witty, writing "if I am too conscious of what I am doing I can't write. My imagination takes its ball and goes home".

I do feel truly lucky to have received a response, and its proof to all those naysayers who decry the Internet and emails. Maybe one day I will be able to write like him...

FFFFOUND!

A friend put me on to a great blog called ffffound! where people post great drawings/photos/sketches. I'm a bit of an addict for this sort of thing...I spent most of my weekend browsing. Another sign of addiction: It's updated really regularly so I can get a hit multiple times a day!
Some of my favourites:

Which character are you?

I had an interesting conversation the other day, in which my friend confessed to "becoming" a character from his favourite TV show after a marathon of reruns. I think often we find parallels in characters we are attracted to, or even just see a little bit of ourselves in.

What literary or screen figure are you?

I've been compared to Bernard Black from Black Books (not sure if this is a complement - but I do like wearing black and a good wine), or the Underground Man in Notes from the Underground. (Both a little dark, maybe its the winter cold!)
Or maybe Adrian Mole, scribbling away about the mundane details. I love Adrian Mole, he only improves with age, and Sue Townsend makes what is initially an uninteresting pretence a really enjoyable read.

I'm not sure if there's a female equivalent for these... I hope so!
